The official start of Autumn is just around the corner—and already—the Off Grounds Housing Panic has set in.
In hopes of keeping you and your Hoo from being swept onto the crazy train of hand wringing and confusion, our updated Housing Tips can be found in the link below.
It’s full of wise counsel from other MomsHooPray members to help you and your Hoo navigate the many options and stay grounded in faith that God is bigger than this, too, and He is faithful—even if things get messy!
We pray your Hoo will find compatible roommates, clean apartments and convenient-locations.
But even if they don’t, we know that if you and your Hoo trust God, He will bring good—even from bad, beauty—even from ugly and growth through any challenges ahead.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Perspectives: Off Grounds Housing Panic—published 2020
We now live in the house I wrote about in 2018 —“The Burleson CharlottesVilla”— where friends and family come to “cozy down.” But believe me, the whole process wasn’t exactly a warm and cozy, relaxing experience! God saw us through many decisions, setbacks, delays, and “issues.” And now, we are incredibly grateful every day for each step that He used to build this house—and us—in the process.
I know He does not love your kids any less than He loved us throughout and since the whole ordeal. I know that He will go ahead of each of your students, and alongside them, and be their rear guard after it’s all said and done—even in this difficult year.
He can and will redeem any wrong steps when they turn it all to Him.
God is with them. Even if it doesn’t look that way.
He is the master architect and incredibly creative in building their lives, renovating the mess, and fully restoring them.
If you are in a place of worry for your kids, take heart! The BEST thing you can do is pray, then watch and keep trusting in The Master Builder. Because God’s not finished!
Housing Wisdom—published 2018
We are currently building a house. Never done it before. There are many steps in the process, and much of it is confusing. In May, we met our construction foreman who has built countless beautiful homes and has the expertise to get it done.
I go by once a week and deliver brownies to the workmen. It can’t hurt, right?
I expect once we are further along if I have concerns, I will reach out to our foreman and he will reassure me that he still knows what he is doing.
Watching a house being built is sort of like waiting for prayers to be answered. It seems like not much is happening, often looks like a complete mess and does not remind you in any way shape or form of the model home.
At various stages, it is a disappointment. Until it is finished.
In a few years, you may not recall the details — the who, what, when, where or how your student’s own housing concerns were solved. Or not solved.
But you will remember that you prayed, and those prayers were addressed to One who is an expert builder, problem solver, provider.
He has His ways — they are not our ways; His timetable is perfect.
Do not worry, instead pray, watch and trust that the Master Builder knows what He is doing.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:5-6
