“Prayer lays hold of God’s plan and becomes the link…

“Prayer lays hold of  God’s plan and becomes the link between His will and its accomplishment on earth.  Amazing things happen, and we are given the privilege of being the channels of the Holy Spirit’s prayer.”

~ Elisabeth Elliot ~

As we head into a new semester for our college students, we want to join God our Father —  who goes before them and us:

“The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”  Deuteronomy 31:8

Whenever you pray, remember that you are also joining Jesus, God the Son:

Christ Jesus who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.  Romans 8:34

If you do not know what to pray, God the Holy Spirit does.

…We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.  Romans 8:26b-27

If the following format can be of any help during your time of prayer, please incorporate as much or as little as you desire.

First we worship and adore Him.  He is worthy.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?  Psalm 8:3-4

Now, let us confess our own sins.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.  Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.  For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.  Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:13-16

Let’s thank Him for all that He has done, for us, and for our students.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Thank him and bless his name…Psalm 100:4

And thank Him in advance, in faith, for all He will do, some of which we will not know this side of heaven.

Finally, let’s do the work of warriors and do battle in prayer for God to target the hearts of each of our students, (or our already graduated students) — especially the “fence sitters” or the prodigals.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Pray for the unhindered power Of God to be unleashed this weekend, this semester, this year; on all college campuses; at all campus ministry events. Pray for God to thwart all attempts of the enemy to drag students into darkness or discourage and distract His people.

“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”  Matthew 18:18-20

Pray using the scriptures, for God’s word is powerful!  Claim his promises for your campus, your student, your grad student, their roommates, their professors.

“Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?”  Jeremiah 23:29

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.  1 Corinthians 10:13

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.  Ephesians 6:10-18

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.  John 10:10

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”  Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.  He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart… Psalm 91

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Romans 15:13

“If added power attends the united prayer of two or three, what mighty triumphs there will be when hundreds of thousands of consistent members of the Church are with one accord day by day making intercession for the extension of Christ’s Kingdom.”  —John R. Mott
